Broadband Access

The WiBAS product family is INTRACOM TELECOM’s exceptional addition to the world of broadband wireless systems. INTRACOM TELECOM’s proven expertise in broadband, wireless, access and transmission technologies, driven by network operators’ needs, has created a unique product, offering state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge radio performance. Used in a large number of applications, broadband wireless systems provide financially superior solutions for a growing number of businesses. The WiBAS product family uniquely addresses the requirements of telecommunications operators, incumbents or new entrants, fixed or mobile.

The WiBAS product family is composed of broadband wireless point-to-multipoint systems based on 802.16 technology. Packet switching, adaptive modulation, adaptive power control, high spectral efficiency, forward error correction, QoS, and security are the core of WiBAS technology.

Using the openness of 802.16, variants of the core technology have been developed to target specific needs and applications.

Applications

Broadband wireless delivers

In today's telecommunications market, there are three main drivers for broadband wireless applications:

  • Competition from new entrants;
  • Deployment in underserved areas;
  • 802.16 technology.

As more countries open their telecommunications markets to the competition, new entrants need to quickly build new, cost-effective networks to effectively compete with the existing providers. In developing countries and regions, greenroots networks need to be deployed, while many areas of the developed world still need the infrastructure for broadband services.

Today, wireless telecommunication systems can fully address these situations. Wireless networks can be built more quickly and inexpensively than wireline networks. Moreover, the 802.16 technology made available recently by the IEEE for large-scale broadband wireless networks finally meets the expectations for such systems, providing users with the services they need and operators the profitability they seek.

WiBAS systems are all based on the IEEE 802.16 technology, a truly global standard.

WiBAS - Triple Play Services

Traditional telephone operators begin to suffer from revenue attacks on their traditional voice services by cellular network operators and VoIP-bypass phone service providers. ILEC, CLEC, and Cable service providers around the world realize that in order to maximize Average Revenue per User (ARPU) and minimize subscriber churn, they will have to come up with innovative and, more importantly, bundled services. On top of that, given the harsh competition, these services have to be deployed and maintained with the least possible Capital and Operational expenditure.

Consequently both ILECs and CLECs are competing in offering their customers a service bundle which contains concurrently all three, High-Speed Internet, Voice, and Video service. This "Triple Play" service is the key solution for the Incumbent operator's need for ARPU increase and Competitive operator's differentiation need.

The WiBAS systems have been built around these exact requirements. All WiBAS systems adhere to the demandnig requirements of any Triple-Play services enabled network. Moreover, INTRACOM TELECOM is also offering fs|cdn, a state-of-the-art Content Delivery platform that combines broadband data access with voice and video services, offered over any IP-enabled broadband network, regardless of the access technology involved (DSL, wireless, cable etc.), enabling end-users to enjoy unique, bundled services, all delivered seamlessly on PCs, TV sets or other terminal devices.

3G/2G backhauling

Mobile network operators are customed to building their own backhaul networks to leasing network capacity. With the emergence of 3G networks and ever-increasing network traffic, point-to-multipoint broadband backhauling systems represent a compelling solution for the access and transmission networks of the cellcos.

WiBAS-2X and WiBAS-Pro provide a robust, high-performance and comprehensive backhauling solution, which can also be leveraged to provide access services to large enterprises, and create new revenue streams for the operators.

The system seamlessly integrates with both 2G and 3G networks, addressing the particular needs of mobile networks and providing a future-proof solution for a reliable and cost-effective access and transmission network.

Fixed networks backhauling

Wireless networks are much more inexpensive and faster to build than land-line networks. Building powerful backhauling networks is a prerequisite for the profitable operation of broadband services. WiBAS-2X and WiBAS-Pro extend the reach of broadband technologies such as Wi-Fi, WiMAX and xDSL. The systems seamlessly integrate with existing network infrastructure and can be leveraged to simultaneously provide access services (either broadband or legacy) to high-end business customers.

Broadband access for business customers

Corporations, businesses, agencies and other high-end customers need to connect through robust and high bitrate connections either to the Internet or to their remote offices.

All WiBAS systems provide broadband IP services via Ethernet (10/100BaseT) interfaces that can be used by corporations for:

  • Broadband Internet access;
  • Broadband Virtual Private Networks (packet-switched leased lines);
  • Voice services with VoIP

WiBAS systems employ all the necessary mechanisms to provide guaranteed QoS to end users and enable the operators to offer SLAs through CIR and PIR services. Further, voice traffic is prioritised securing toll-quality voice services provision.

Broadband access for the mass market.

The growth of broadband access lines has been spectacular in the last few years. Users around the world are picking up broadband services to surf the Internet, do research, work, communicate with their friends and family, and to enjoy entertainment. WiMAX can help operators build robust and high-capacity access networks which provide broadband services to end-users in a fast time-to-market and cost-effective manner.
